Lippi Rages At Juve's First Half Display
Sunday 4th November 2001
Juventus coach Marcello Lippi was left fuming at his side's first half performance as they were forced to come from two behind to snatch a draw against Verona on Sunday. "To be great team, you have to play for 90 minutes," he raged.
Juve needed two goals in the last 12 minutes to take a point, leaving them sixth in the table, having gone six Serie A games without a win.
"I'm angrier about the first half than the second," Lippi went on. "Clearly I have not managed to explain to my team that they must play for 90 minutes, starting well and going on at the same level to the end.
"That's my fault, of course, because I couldn't make them understand my way of thinking. If you don't play for 90 minutes, then your opponents can take advantage.
"You must start at a good pace and play resolutely with the right ardour. Otherwise you can't be considered a really great team."
