Lippi Encouraged Despite Inter Stalemate
Saturday 27th October 2001
Juventus coach Marcello Lippi said that he was pleased with his players' contribution in the 0-0 draw with Internazionale on Saturday night.
The tepid game finished goalless and Juventus have now gone five Serie A games without a win.
But Lippi was encouraged despite the lack of goals. He said: "We tried to win but we didn't succeed. We were unlucky with Zambrotta's header against the bar.
"I am pleased with the players and there were signs that we are growing up as a team and I think we deserved to get more out of this game.
"We had a big game against Porto on Tuesday and we lost a lot of energy in that game.
"I know that Roma won tonight but I don't fear them. The season is long and we have many important games left to play.
"I am confident in Juventus, I see that we are making progress and we just need a bit continuity in our performances.
Internazionale coach Hector Cuper, meanwhile, talked about the importance of not losing and how difficult the week after their 4-2 defeat to AC Milan had been.
He said: "We had to recover strength and personality and we succeeded in that.
"We will be a different team when we have Ronaldo and Christian Vieri back. I am happy with the game, both the result and how we behaved.
"It is true that we didn't create any chances but Juventus pushed us back.
"So we only looked for long shots and this was an easy situation for Juventus' defenders."
