Juventus Hit By Trezeguet Injury
Monday 8th October 2001
Juventus' in-form striker David Trezeguet has been ruled out of Wednesday's Champions' League clash with Porto after he picked up a knee injury playing for France in their abandoned friendly against Algeria on Saturday.
Trezeguet felt pain in his knee after Saturday's game in the Stade de France, which was called off in the 76th minute after supporters invaded the pitch with France 4-1 ahead at the time.
The former Monaco star had a precautionary scan as soon as he arrived back in Italy, and has been advised to rest for at least one week by the Juventus medical staff. He is also doubtful for Sunday's Turin derby against Torino.
News of Trezeguet's injury comes as a blow to coach Marcello Lippi, who is facing a striker crisis ahead of the key Champions' League clash in the Das Antas Stadium.
Nicola Amoruso has also been ruled out through injury, while Lippi was hoping to rest Marcelo Salas, who endured an energy-sapping trip to Chile to play against Brazil at the weekend.
The former Lazio ace is now likely to have to start for Juventus, who lead Group E with four points from their two matches to date.
