It Was Not A Penalty, Admits Trezeguet
Wednesday 19th September 2001
Juventus striker David Trezeguet has admitted the last-minute penalty that clinched a 3-2 Champions' League victory over Celtic on Tuesday night should not have been given.
Having fought back from 2-0 down, Celtic hearts were broken when Nicola Amoruso went down in the box before picking himself up and slotting home the spot kick.
But Trezeguet admitted: "We were lucky. I saw the action on television and it was not a penalty."
However, he added that it wasn't the only poor decision on the night. "Celtic's penalty shouldn't have been given either," he claimed.
The French striker feels Juve are in good form, despite their element of luck. "We are playing very well," he said. "We have recorded four consecutive victories, this shows how strong we are."
On a personal note, he added: "This is a very special year for me. I understand that there is a great confidence in me.
"But I worked a lot to be in the line-up and I succeeded. I hope to be considered, as soon as possible, as one of the best strikers in the world."
