Juve Admit Larsson Interest

Sunday 16th September 2001

Juventus have revealed that they are interested in Celtic's Henrik Larsson as they bid to boost their firepower following the departure of Zinedine Zidane.

Giancarlo Corradini, a member of Juve's coaching staff, made the admission after watching Larsson play his part in the 4-0 demolition of Dundee on Saturday.

Corradini, on a spying mission ahead of his side's clash with Celtic in the Champions' League in Turin on Tuesday, admitted: "I'm sure we would have given Zidane to have Larsson in the team.

"He is the complete goalscorer and the fact he finished top-scorer in Europe last year says everything about his quality."

Zidane left the Italian giants for Real Madrid in the summer for a world record 48 million but Larsson is committed to Celtic. He has signed a new deal to keep him at Parkhead until 2004.

Corradini went on to identify the Swedish international as Celtic's key man in next week's European clash.

"Larsson is definitely the greatest threat to us," he said. "But there is no doubting he has the quality to be successful in Serie A."
