Porto Quietly Confident Of Win Over Juve

Monday 10th September 2001

Porto coach Octavio Machado has promised his team will attack against Juventus in the Champions' League this week, just like they did in the 3-0 defeat of Varzim at the weekend. "Our attitude will be exactly the same. This gives us high hopes," he said.

"But Juventus are stronger this season and, even if they have lost a great player like Zidane, they have signed some extraordinary talents.

"I think they have a more solid, compact and organised team than last year. At the moment, in my opinion, they are the best side in Italy."

Porto playmaker Deco also recognised the difficulty of Wednesday's match, but added that defeating the Serie A giants was a realistic goal.

"It's going to be a very tricky game. We know all their players, they have a world-class squad and they are building a strong group. But that is not enough to beat us at home. We have very good players too," he said.
