Nedved Wants Salas At Juve

Tuesday 7th August 2001

Pavel Nedved has urged Juventus to sign former Lazio team-mate Marcelo Salas before Serie A kicks off at the end of August. "He is a great player and a great man," said the Czech Republic midfielder.

Juventus are looking to sign a forward after losing Filippo Inzaghi to AC Milan and Nedved, a 26 million summer arrival, hopes they will go for the Chile ace.

He said: "I always felt good with Salas because he is a generous player and is always working for the team. I would be happy to see him in Turin."

Juventus are hoping that Lazio will refrain from playing the Chilean against FC Copenhagen in their Champions' League qualifier on Wednesday night, so he might be free to play for them in the same competition.

And Nedved added: "I send my best wishes to my former team-mates, although this a subject that doesn't move me at all. I'm a Juve player now and I think only to do my best for my new club."

The Czech also revealed how impressed he was with his new surroundings. "You don't need to do a lot more after you've been working under our fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone," he said.

"I am obsessed with my fitness and in Rome I got back and worked on my fitness in my private gym. Here I can just relax when I get home."

Nedved admitted, though, that Juventus need to work on their attack before the season starts on August 26. He said: "We need criticism to get better.

"In the Bario [recent friendly tournament against Lazio and Inter], we didn't score. But the important thing is that we are at our best when it really matters, when the league starts."
