LONDON, July 31 (AFP)
Dutch World Cup goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar Tuesday signed a four-year
contract to join English Premiership newboys Fulham, according to a website
report.
Van der Saar is out of favour at Italian giants Juventus after the Turin
club signed Gianluigi Buffon from Parma in a 48 million dollar deal earlier
in the summer.
The 30-year-old is expected in London on Wednesday for a medical. The fee
has yet to be confirmed Fulham, coached by former French international Jean
Tigana and bankrolled by multi-millionaire Mohamed al Fayed, won the First
Division championship and will open their Premiership season against
reigning champions Manchester United next month.
The statement on www.juventus.com read: "Juventus FC and Fulham FC have
reached an agreement to transfer Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van
der Sar to the London club. "The goalkeeper has signed a four-year contract
with Fulham."
French manager Jean Tigana told www.fulhamfc.com: "We are delighted to
welcome Edwin to Fulham. "His playing ability has been proven at the highest
level both domestically and internationally and we believe he will be a
great asset to the squad."
