Juventus Thank Old Boys For Keeping Title Hopes Alive
ROME, June 11 (Reuters)(DS) - Juventus have expressed their thanks to former
players Nicola Amoruso and Fabio Pecchia for scoring goals in Napoli's 2-2
draw with Italian league leaders AS Roma and keeping Juve in the race for
the title.
Sunday's result cut Roma's lead at the top to just two points and means
Juventus can win the title if they beat Atalanta Bergamo in their final
match and Roma lose at home to Parma.
"Napoli have done us a big favour and Pecchia and Amoruso -- two of our
ex-players -- both scored," Juve coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "I told
(Juventus director-general Luciano) Moggi during the week that we should
send more of our players to Napoli."
Striker Amoruso played for Juve for three seasons from 1996-99, scoring nine
times in 53 Serie A appearances. Midfielder Pecchia, who scored Napoli's
dramatic 82nd minute equaliser on Sunday, played for the Turin club for a
single season in 1997-98 before returning to Naples.
