Milan To Make 25m Inzaghi Bid

Tuesday 5th June 2001

AC Milan will make a bid believed to be in the region of 25 million for Juventus striker Filippo Inzaghi on Wednesday. "Silvio Berlusconi has given me permission to make an offer to Juventus which I will present on Wednesday," said Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani.

The Turin club are believed to have demanded a 25 million fee for the 27-year-old Italy international, and Galliani has been given the go-ahead by the club's president Berlusconi to make the bid.

"We will be very happy if Inzaghi signs for AC Milan," added Galliani.

As onefootball.com reported on Sunday, Inzaghi revealed the San Siro club would be his "first choice" if he left Juve.

Inzaghi has been left out of the Juve starting line-up in recent weeks due to the good form of David Trezeguet, and with Alessandro Del Piero back to his best, he may be tempted to leave Turin in the summer.

And Inzaghi said on Sunday that if he did walk out on the Stadio dell Alpi, there was only one place he wanted to go.

"I am very flattered by Milan's interest. It's important to know that Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani appreciate me, and that through the years their confidence in me has not changed," he said.

"That is why, if I had to move clubs, Milan would be my first choice."

Inzaghi's comments came after Galliani first revealed he would love to sign the striker. "He is a great player. For sure he could join Milan," he said.

It has been rumoured that Juventus may look to bring Christian Vieri back to the club with the money from the Inzaghi sale.

But it will take some convincing from the Turin club to persuade Internazionale to part with their forward star.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to partner Vieri up front with Ronaldo next season, as both players have struggled with injury since joining the San Siro club and have rarely played together.
