Moratti Rebuffed As Moggi Stays With Juventus

Sunday 27th May 2001

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has pledged his future to the club after confirming that Massimo Moratti offered him the same role at Internazionale.

"I want to express my thanks to Mr Moratti for the confidence he has shown in me," Moggi said. "But it's impossible for me to accept his proposal at the moment, so I will stay with Juve.

"There are some friendships that can lead to job connections, but that is not the case here and I'll not go to Inter."

Moratti has spent more than 260 million as Inter president, but has achieved a poor return on that investment, and it is now 12 years since they last clinched the Scudetto.

Moggi has long been regarded as one of the most influential and canny managers in Italian football, but his refusal to join Inter leaves Moratti looking for another replacement for Gabriele Oriali.
