Zidane Has Heard Nothing From Madrid, Says Agent
Friday 18th May 2001
Zinedine Zidane's agent has played down reports that the French star is set to leave Juventus for Real Madrid - although Alain Miglaccio did leave open the possibility of the move.
Spanish television station Rai 1 had suggested that Real are willing to offer 10 million plus midfielder Claude Makelele and defender Michel Salgado for Zidane.
Real president Florentino Perez then fuelled the speculation by saying Zidane fitted with the club's strategy of signing world class players.
But Miglaccio insisted nothing is imminent. "Nobody from Real Madrid has called me in the last few weeks," the agent explained. "I don't know anything of Real Madrid's interest in Zidane.
"If it's true that the president said it, he hasn't called me. I insist that nobody has said anything to me and Zidane has a contract with Juve until 2005."
But Miglaccio added: "We're willing to listen to Madrid but the team that wants Zidane will have to speak to Juventus first, and then to us.
"To play in Spain has always been a possibility but he is happy at Juventus and everything depends on them.
"If you're asking me, and without really knowing anything about the subject at the moment, I don't think Juventus would want to sell although as we know, in the world of football, anything can happen."
French international midfielder Makalele also told Spanish daily Marca: "Anything can happen in football. One day you are here and the other you are not, although I want to carry on because I'm very happy at Real Madrid."
