Trezeguet Keen As Houllier Confirms Approach For Euro 2000 Star

David Trezeguet is ready to quit Juventus to join Liverpool. "If the deal is on, I'd be interested," said the France international as Anfield boss Gerard Houllier confirmed he has made an inquiry for the striker, fuelling speculation that Robbie Fowler is finished on Merseyside.
"I didn't call him directly because he's under contract with Juventus," Houllier said."But I have made an inquiry. We'll see."
And with Fowler again said to be unhappy at Anfield after failing to make the starting line-up for either the FA Cup or Uefa final, the French boss insists he will stop players leaving the treble winners.
"I have players whose contracts are up in two years, and if they don't want to sign new terms, I won't stand in their way; I'll just bring in other players," said Houllier.
Trezeguet, who scored France's golden goal winner against Italy in the Euro 2000 final, is frustrated at not being a regular starter for Juventus, where he is in competition with Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi.
The 23-year-old got off to a bright start in Turin before injury struck and since he returned to full fitness, coach Carlo Ancelotti has used him mainly as a substitute.
When he did start against Fiorentina last week, Trezeguet set up a goal for international team-mate Zinedine Zidane and scored the third goal himself in a 3-1 away win.
"When things are gong well, as they did in Florence, it's very agreeable to play here," said Trezeguet, who arrived in Turin from Monaco last summer in a 14 million deal. "Now we need to see what Juventus want to do - who the club wants to buy, who the club wants to see leave.
"I'm ready to listen, but I need to find a good position in an important year that ends with the World Cup. Liverpool are ambitious, have very good players and a coach ready to put his faith in me."
The striker added: "I understand that the season has been difficult for our coach what with the early elimination from the Champions' League and in the Italian Cup, but I don't want to have another season like this.
"I know very well that I'm under contract with Juventus until 2005, but in football today everything goes very quickly. One minute you're here, the next you're gone. You always have to be ready."
