Ancelotti Backs Juve Lecce Draw
Sunday 29th April 2001
Juventus coach Carlos Ancelotti has defended his side in the face of boos from the Delle Alpi crowd following their disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Lecce on Sunday.
"Of course, we do not feel good today," he said. "We tried to win the game in every way, we really did our best, but at times we were a little confused."
The result leaves Juve five points behind Roma at the top of the table, but Ancelotti refused to accept that his side are out of the race.
"We are disappointed about the result, but we are desperate to get our challenge underway again. Unfortunately in football you sometimes don't get what you deserve."
Igor Tudor put Juventus ahead after 40 minutes, only for Alessandro Conticchio to equalise seconds later with a diving header. Ancelotti, though, denied that the goal was the result of a loss of concentration brought about by the goal.
"Everybody talks about goals being cause by lapse of attention, but in this case it's not true," he explained. "Conticchio scored a wonderful goal and I have no regrets about it."
