Juventus In Hunt For 6m Djordjevic

Wednesday 25th April 2001

Serie A giants Juventus are believed to be lining up a 6 million bid for Yugoslavia star Predrag Djordjevic. Scouts from the Scudetto contenders will be in Belgrade on Wednesday to monitor the experienced left-sided Yugoslavia midfielder in action against Russia.

The Turin club have been monitoring the progress of the shaven-headed Djordjevic since the two clubs met three years ago in the quarter-finals of the Champions' League.

At the time the player was judged to be too inconsistent and Italian rivals Internazionale swooped for team-mate and fellow winger Grigoris Georgatos.

This season, back in harness with Georgatos on the left for Olympiakos, the Yugoslav has been in sensational form, providing the cutting edge that has seen Olympiakos come within one match of their sixth double, after embarking on a 14-match winning streak.

Olympiakos have indicated their willingness to allow players to leave on the right terms and would be keen to free up a berth for a non-EU player.

However, Djordjevic is reported to be on the verge of claiming Greek citizenship after a six-year stint in the country.
