Davids Gave His Answer, Says Juve Coach

Sunday 22nd April 2001

Juventus coach Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for Edgar Davids on Sunday as the Dutch midfielder put doping allegations behind him to give a starring performance against Parma.

"We have no official communication about it and I prefer to wait before speaking on this subject," was Ancelotti's only comment on the allegations.

But the Juve boss had plenty to say about the midfielder's display. "Edgar did not have a great match, but a superb one," said Ancelotti. "He supported our midfield perfectly and was dangerous around Parma's net."

The coach added: "If he needed to he gave a great answer with such a game."

Despite losing ground on the Serie A leaders by taking only a point on Sunday, Ancelotti remains upbeat and has targeted Juve's clash with Roma in two weeks time as the title decider.

"We showed we are still alive yet and we can play for the scudetto until the end of the season," said the Turin coach. "Roma are at the top of the rankings, but there are still many chances for the pursuers."

Against Parma, Ancelotti was forced to take off Alex Del Piero with a thigh strain. "We will wait to evaluate his situation," said the coach. "It was a pity because he was playing well."
