Zidane Calls On Beckham To Take Italian Job

Friday 13th April 2001

Juventus midfielder Zinedine Zidane has told David Beckham to leave Manchester United and test himself in Serie A. "There are a lot of teams in Italy who would be delighted to sign him," Zidane said. "I would like to think David would take up the challenge and move to Italy."

"David Beckham is one of the best players in the world," Zidane continued. "Everyone has seen that with his performance for United and England over the years.

"I know there are a lot of teams in Italy who would be delighted to sign him and have him playing for them.

"I am not so sure United would sell because he is a very valuable player for them and has helped them do so well in Europe.

"But if they do, I would like to think David would take up the challenge and move to Italy.

"This is one of the best leagues in the world and I am sure David would be a very good player here," told The Sun.

United manager Alex Ferguson has refused to contemplate selling the England captain despite repeated interest from Serie A's leading sides.

Earlier this week AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani admitted that he had tried to sign Beckham, 25, in the past but denied making a recent bid for the player.
