Van der Sar Laughs Off Barca Rumours

Tuesday 10th April 2001

Juventus goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has played down reports linking him with a move to Barcelona. "They already have six Dutch players there and I am perfectly happy here," the Holland international said.

Van der Sar had a shaky start to the season and was to blame on several occasions as Juve slumped out of the Champions' League and struggled in Serie A.

However, the goalkeeper has now returned to form and his recent performances have seen him linked with Barcelona.

But Van der Sar said on Tuesday that he has no wish to leave the Bianconeri for the Nou Camp. "They already have six Dutch players there and I am perfectly happy here," he said.

He also refused to get carried away with Juve's chances to catch Roma at the top of Serie A after leaders fell to Fiorentina on Monday.

Roma are six points ahead of Juve and Van der Sar said: "The fact that Roma lost in Florence on Monday doesn't change anything for us and the plans we have for the run-in.

"We still have to concentrate on winning nine out of nine games and in the end the strongest side will win the title.

"We haven't played that well recently but I don't know why that is. We have made too many mistakes in our past three games and we have to work hard on correcting that. And I wouldn't say that Roma have encountered any crises yet."
