Trezeguet Will Stay At Juve, Insists Ancelotti
Sunday 8th April 2001
Juventus coach Carlo Ancelotti assured supporters of his intention to keep
France striker David Trezeguet in Turin next season after Juventus' 1-0 win
over Verona on Sunday.
Trezeguet said on Saturday that he regretted signing for Juve because of his
failure to hold down a regular first-team place, but Ancelotti has made it
clear that the Frenchman is still part of his plans.
"As far as I'm concerned I want Trezeguet to play for Juventus next season,"
he said. "He did a good job today and worked hard for his team-mates. That's
what I asked him to do and that's what he did."
Juventus picked up all three points thanks to an Alessandro Del Piero
penalty that reduced Roma's lead over the Turin side to six points - at
least until Fabio Capello's side play Fiorentina on Monday.
"I will watch Fiorentina play Roma on television," Ancelotti said. "But Juve
should only be interested in their own affairs. Today's match showed we
haven't given up on the Scudetto.
"We didn't play a great match but the Bentegodi is always a tough ground for
the visitors," he added. "We concentrated hard and dominated from Luigi
Apollonia's sending off onwards."
