Kovacevic Happy At Juve For Now
Wednesday 21st March 2001
Arsenal target Darko Kovacevic has revealed that Juventus are unlikely to let him leave, despite the possibility of Patrick Vieira arriving at the Delle Alpi in part-exchange. "I've had no offer yet and Juve don't look like selling me," he told onefootball.com.
Kovacevic claimed on Wednesday that the North London club were preparing to let midfield star Vieira go in exchange for him and 9 million.
But the Yugoslavia forward denied that he would jump at the opportunity to leave Juve, where he has struggled to break into the starting XI.
"The fact is that, at a club like Juventus, you can't be unhappy. They needed more options up front for the Champions' League, Italian Cup and the Scudetto," Kovacevic said.
"We failed in Europe and then it becomes very difficult to win a place in the side ahead of Del Piero, Inzaghi and Trezeguet. However, I am pleased with Juve, my contract runs until 2004 and there are no indications that anything will change."
The former Sheffield Wednesday forward did not rule out a move to the Premiership in the future, though. "It feels good to know that clubs like Arsenal want me. They showed interest before but there was no concrete offer.
"It's all up to Juventus really. They have shown no intention of giving up on me so far. There have been offers from other clubs like Rangers, Valencia and Dortmund but here I am, still at Juve."
