Ferrara Hoping To Avoid Defeat In Lazio
Wednesday 14th March 2001
As Juventus gear up for Sunday's crucial league clash with Lazio on Sunday,
they are in good spirits. "I am sure, we will not lose in Rome," said
defender Ciro Ferrara.
Carlo Ancelotti's men know that defeat will go a long was to ending their
title aspirations, as league leaders Roma have the apparently easier fixture
of Reggina away, and Ferrara is hopeful of keeping the heat on the
Giallorossi - even if he is not overly confident of getting an away win.
"I am sure we will not lose in Rome," he said. "We have to hold out hope so
long as we are still mathematically within reach."
Ferrara knows all about high-pressure matches at the tender age of 34. But
he also knows that he will not be involved in too many similar situations in
the future - as time is no longer on his side. He is already having to come
to terms with the idea of no longer being a first-team regular.
"I don't know what the future holds," he admitted. "I will sit around the
table with management and discuss my position. I hope to still be useful for
Juventus, even if it is as a substitute."
"At the beginning of the year I found the new situation difficult. But now I
understand that I can also help Juventus by being on the bench."
