Trezeguet Determined to Take His Chance

Saturday 10th March 2001 - onefootball.com

France striker David Trezeguet will return to the Juventus side for the first time since the end of January, replacing the suspended Alessandro del Piero against Reggina on Sunday.

"I only want to get my place in the side back, and convince [coach Carlo] Ancelotti that I can help my team-mates," Trezeguet, who was injured on 28 January against Vicenza, said.

"I knew before I came here that it would be very difficult to play a lot of games. I know that del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi are now in very good shape."

Trezeguet scored both of Juve's goals in a 2-0 away win against Reggina earlier in the season, but is mindful that a repeat performance will not be easy as Franco Colomba's side battle for points to pull clear of the relegation zone.

"We have to beat Reggina," Trezeguet continued. "I know I scored two goals in Reggio Calabria, but now points have a double value, and not only for us.

"Reggina are fighting against the drop to Serie B but we have to get a result if we are going to keep up the fight with Roma for the scudetto. We have to win.

"I'm happy that Lazio midfielder Pavel Nedved said that we are favourites to beat Roma and win the scudetto. It means our opponents respect us."

For the first time this season, Ancelotti has no injury concerns. Paolo Montero, Mark Iuliano and Antonio Conte are all ready to return although Ancelotti is expected to leave Iuliano out and start Conte only from the bench as a precaution ahead to next week's clash with Lazio.

Reggina coach Franco Colomba would probably settle for a draw as his side look to build on last Sunday's important win over Bologna. He has assigned two players to man-mark Zinedine Zidane with Salvatore Vicari shadowing the France star in attack and Ezio Brevi taking over in midfield.

If Zidane can be stopped, there's still the small matter of beating Juve keeper Edwin Van der Sar who has not conceded a goal in 368 minutes.
