Candela Lays Down Challenge to Zidane
Friday 9th March 2001
France defender Vincent Candela has warned international team-mate Zinedine Zidane that his Roma team have what it takes to win Serie A.
"The arrival of Batistuta and Emerson has made the spirit of the team change," insisted Candela, who admits Zidane's Juve are Roma's biggest rivals for the Italian title.
But Candela added: "Our pursuers cannot make any mistakes whereas we could make some errors but we would remain top. I have already told Zidane that Roma are stronger and that we will win the title."
Despite his confidence, the full-back is wary of taking this weekend's game against Brescia too lightly.
"Don't say that it is an easy match," said Candela. "We saw in their last match against Lazio that they are well organised and dangerous.
"We all know about Roberto Baggio, Hubner scores a lot and Pirlo is a promising young player. We must be focused."
