Zidane to be UN Goodwill Envoy
GENEVA, March 7 (Reuters) - The United Nations Development Programme said on Wednesday it would make World Footballer of the Year Zinedine Zidane a goodwill ambassador in the drive to end global poverty.
It said the France and Juventus star, whose parents were both Algerian, would be officially appointed to the post on March 19.
Other goodwill ambassadors include Brazilian footballer Ronaldo, a member of the national team that lost to the French side captained by Zidane in the 1998 soccer world cup final.
Other UNDP goodwill ambassadors are U.S. actor Danny Glover, South African Nobel Prize-winning novelist Nadine Gordimer and Japanese actress Misako Kono.
