TURIN, Italy (February 24, 2001 4:53 p.m. EST http://www.sportserver.com) -
Juventus coach Carlo Ancelotti has extended his contract with the Turin
giant until June 30, 2002, the club revealed on
Saturday.
Details of the deal were not revealed, but negotiations have been ongoing
for nearly three months as the 42-year-old Ancelotti was demanding a better
financial deal before signing.
As a player Ancelotti was a member of the Milan team that became the top
side in the world in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He also played in the last Roma side to win the Scudetto in 1982-83.
He took over at Juventus midseason 1999 following the departure of Marcello
Lippi, who resigned on the night of a home defeat to Parma.
Ancelotti, who has also coached Reggiana and Parma, was reported to have
received offers from rival Serie A sides and from Spanish outfit Barcelona
over the past few weeks.
