Feuding Moggi And Capello In The Dock
Thursday 22nd February 2001
Roma coach Fabio Capello and Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi have
been charged with bringing the game into disrepute by the Italian Football
Association for their row over referees.
The two heavyweights of Serie A clashed over claims that teams facing Roma,
the Serie A leaders, have had legitimate penalty appeals turned down by
referees favouring the league leaders.
The Italian football association, the FIGC, has charged the pair with
raising "suspicions regarding the regularity of the championship".
An FIGC statement read: "They showed behaviour that did not conform to the
principles of loyalty, and other principles, and also they were not morally
correct in every relation in competitive and social nature." The FIGC also
expressed fears that the row could "directly or indirectly, constitute
incitement to forms of violence".
Meanwhile, Moggi has added grist to the rumour mill in Italy after an appearance on a sports TV show in northern Italy. "[Fatih] Terim will be the new coach of Milan," the Juve chief revealed, "and [Daniel] Pasarella is on his way to Inter."
