Zidane Unveils Giant Portrait in Marseille
MARSEILLE, France (January 29, 2001 3:11 p.m. EST http://www.sportserver.com) - Zinedine Zidane, the France and Juventus midfielder, on Monday unveiled a giant-sized portrait of himself in his native city of Marseille.
A proud Zidane, who unveiled the full-color photo which replaces a giant
monochrome photo erected for the 1998 World Cup said: "I'm very proud. It's a
big honor for me. More than anything I'm happy that this photo is still
here."
The giant-sized black and white photo of Zidane which was originally
erected was taken down in November after it was daubed with red paint by
vandals.
Initially, it was only supposed to hang for a month for the duration of the
1998 World Cup.
However after Zidane inspired France to victory, the poster became one of
the southern port city's main attractions.
