January is Key, Says Zidane
Friday 12th January 2001
Juventus striker Zinedine Zidane has refused to rule his side out of the
race for the scudetto despite Roma's incredible start to the season. "I
can't believe Roma can play the whole season in this way," the France
international said.
Juve held the runaway Serie A leaders to a goalless draw last month despite
having Edgar Davids sent off, and Zidane believes that January will be a
crucial month if the last season's runners-up are to begin making inroads
into Roma's eight-point lead at the top of the table.
"I think this month could be the most important for our season and for
Roma," Zidane said. "The most important thing now is not to think of Roma
but to take more advantage of the other teams beneath us."
"We have to focus on the game. Roma are in first because they have the best
attack. Other teams have good defence, like us. In Italy it is very very
difficult to score, but Roma are now fantastic in attack and that's the
difference."
"We can't afford to drop any more points this month," he said. "We have to
take each match as they come. On Sunday we will face Bologna, then Perugia,
which was an unlucky town for us last season."
