Moggi Furious With Referee

Monday 8th January 2001

Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has slammed the referee following his side's 3-3 draw at home to Fiorentina, and claimed decisions that go against his club are not being highlighted in the media.

Moggi claimed the Turin club should have been given two penalties during Saturday's match and that the Viola's third goal was a foul.

Fiorentina grabbed the game's final goal to secure a point when Enrico Chiesa's curling free-kick found its way into the net, but Moggi claimed Angelo Di Livio pushed a Juve player aside in the wall. Referee Cesari saw nothing wrong and gave the goal.

Moggi told Italian television: "It's incredible that the referee gave Fiorentina the goal that made it 3-3. Di Livio made a foul on one of ours player who was in the wall for the Fiorentina free-kick.

"And I can't understand why the referee didn't give us two penalties. The first time he showed a yellow card to Filippo Inzaghi, and the second he didn't give a foul either way, but Inzaghi didn't fall alone.

"If the referee had given us the decision, all the other teams, all the newspapers and television stations would have screamed about a conspiracy to help Juventus, but why doesn't anybody say anything now?"

Di Livio said of his push during the build-up for the third goal: "It wasn't a thing we decided on in training. The free-kick of Chiesa was well angled, and with my push I gave it half-a-meter more room to get through."

He added: "I didn't like the two dives from Inzaghi, he should have been sent off for play acting, but I still have a lot of respect for him."

Meanwhile Juventus have confirmed that they expect to see Alessandro Del Piero, who has been on the sidelines for a month, return to training by the end of the week.
