No Holiday For Determined Del Piero
Saturday 30th December 2000
While the rest of his team-mates were away celebrating Christmas, Alessandro
Del Piero worked hard to recover from his latest injury. The Juventus
striker is ahead of schedule and targeting January 21 for his comeback
against Perugia.
The injury hit Italian international will have an examination on Sunday and
hope to be back on the pitch before the end of January. He has pencilled in
the game against Perugia on January 21 for his comeback but will not rush
things as he fears another breakdown.
Doctor Ricarado Agricola on Saturday talked admiringly of the progress Del
Piero has made over the past weeks. "Alex has worked with our therapists in
the past days, and they told me that everything is ok. Del Piero is
recovering at a quicker rate than we expected," he said.
Del Piero may be on his way back but that doesn't stop Juventus from looking
for new strikers. Bari striker Antonio Cassano recently revealed that he
would like to play for the Bianconero and Juventus executive Luciano Moggi
admitted that he would like to see the player at Stadio delli Alpi.
"We are not in some kind of war for Cassano, but we like this young player
and we can offer some interesting player for Bari now," Moggi said.
Bari sports director Regalia responded by saying: "I am waiting for an offer
from Moggi but our boy can only think about playing well for Bari now. I
don't think we will sell him in January anyway."
Cassano's agent, the lawyer Giuseppe Bozzo, said: "Cassano is not nervous
and he isn't in a hurry to leave, but he wants to know as soon as possible
which team will be the next one for him."
