Juve Hitting Top Form
Sunday 17th December 2000
Juventus coach Carlo Ancelotti said Sundays 4-1 win at Lecce showed his side are now approaching the top of their game after a stuttering start to the season.
Goals from Filippo Inzaghi, David Trezeguet, Darko Kovacevic and Gianluca Zambrotta gave the Turin club the three points and sent them up to second place in Serie A.
Ancelotti said: "In the last four matches we have obtained three victories and a draw away. We are approaching full strength. Today it was a hard match as Lecce pushed forward from the beginning. Then Inzaghis goal helped us to control the match.
"He played a good game, as did Trezeguet and Kovacevic. All the three strikers played well, but I dont know who will play against Roma next Friday yet."
Inzaghi said: "It was a hard match even if we dominated it from the start. When they scored to make it 2-1 we were worried about ending up with a draw.
"We are a great team. Me and Trezeguet both scored important goals and both the substitutes also scored. I was not pleased with starting the last few matches from the bench but I had to accept the decision. I dedicate my goal to my family."
Lecces bid to salvage a draw was crushed by the 40th minute sending off of David Balleri.
Lecce midfielder Rodulfo Giorgetti, who scored their goal, said: "Today we had to take important points but we were unable to do it. I dont think we deserved to lose 4-1, we played a good match even when down to 10 men."
Coach Alberto Cavasin added: "We were punished by two great players, Inzaghi and Trezeguet. I was pleased with the way we tried to get back into the match after the sending off."
