Unhappy Esnaider Books Return Ticket
Wednesday 6th December 2000
Argentine striker Juan Eduardo Esnaider has ended his troubled stay in Italy
with Juventus and returned to Real Zaragoza in a loan deal worth 850,000.
Esnaider, a Zaragoza legend who scored one of the goals in their successful
European Cup Winners' Cup final against Arsenal in 1995, will return to his
former club on an 850,000 loan deal until the end of the season. The
Spanish club then have the option to sign him for a fee in the region of
3.5 million in the summer.
Esnaider moved to Juventus in November 1998 in a bid to improve the Turin
side's struggling strike-force. But the Argentinian centre-forward failed to
make an immediate impact in Italy, and then spent most of the 1999-00 season
out with injury.
Zaragoza are currently 16th in La Liga, five points clear of last-placed
Osasuna, and are hoping for a return to form from their returning hero who
will be eligible to play for the team once the Spanish transfer market
officially reopens on 15 December.
