Montero Back For Juventus

Friday 17th November 2000

Struggling Juventus are relieved to welcome back key defender Paolo Montero from injury as they travel to Brescia for a rematch with former favourite Roberto Baggio.

The commanding Uruguayan centre-half has not played for Juve since May and under-pressure coach Carlos Ancelotti is convinced that his return will shore up a defence that has been leaking goals.

Edwin van der Sar is likely to remain in goal despite a rash of recent mistakes that has led some critics to suggest he needs his eyes testing.

The Holland international is certain to face a thorough examination from the Brescia strike-force of Baggio and Dario Hubrner, though, even if the Little Swallows have yet to win in Serie A this season.

Baggio has had a disappointing start to the season with injury restricting his appearances. Nevertheless, he is glad that he made the switch to the Mario Rigamonti stadium.

"It was the right choice, even if we are in a difficult situation with just two points," he said. "People still have confidence in me and in the team, we have faith in coach Carlo Mazzone.

"I am used to playing against Juventus now. It was emotional the first time I faced them, as it would be for any player.

"We are upset about the situation we are in and now have to do something about it on the pitch. I don't believe Juventus are in crisis, they have too many good players."

For Brescia, wing-back Marek Kozminski is injured and will be replaced by Pierluigi Orlandini. Iuliano is out for Juventus, but otherwise, apart from the injured Esnaider, they have a full squad to close from.

The visitors will wear black armbands as a mark of respect following the death of Edoardo Agnelli.
