Zidane Expects No Clemency
Sunday 29th October 2000
Zinedine Zidane said he expected no leniency from Uefa, even though Juventus
have decided to lodge an appeal over his five-match ban for headbutting
Hamburg's Jochen Kientz.
French playmaker Zidane was only able to start Tuesday's Champions' League
match after having a two-match suspension halved by Uefa's disciplinary
board after a red card against Deportivo La Coruna last month.
"I don't expect any clemency," Zidane said. "I regret my gesture and ask
forgiveness from the fans. The moments I'm living now are not easy."
Juventus, who lost 3-1 to Hamburg, must win their final Group E match away
to Panathinaikos to be certain of progressing to the second group phase of
Europe's most prestigious club competition.
Zidane, who has now been sent off ten times in his professional career, will
miss that match and the first four of the next six group games should the
Turin side get through.
