Zidane Unrepentant After Head-Butt
Wednesday 25th October 2000
Zinedine Zidane has apologised to his team-mates for his dismissal for
headbutting against Hamburg, but accused his German opponents of forcing him
into action.
The France midfielder did not admit he was at fault, but he said: "I'm sorry
about the match against Hamburg. I know that the team had a great problem
because of me. I was nervous, so I'm sorry for my team-mates.
"This match was a trap, just as Hamburg wanted and we were stupid to fall
into it. They played very hard, and my defender was very bad. I sought
justice on one occasion, and for this I was sent off."
Edgar Davids, who was also sent off, refused to comment.
