Juventus Not Interested in Signing Inter's Recoba

MILAN (October 20, 2000 12:44 p.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - Juventus has slammed the door to the Stadio Delle Alpi firmly in the face of Inter Milan's Uruguayan striker Alvaro Recoba, who is in a protracted pay dispute with his current club.

Recoba has been for months stalling on signing a new Inter contract and was booed last week by fans at the San Siro. Press speculation has linked the player with a move to Juventus.

But Juventus director general Luciano Moggi said Friday: "We will do nothing against Inter because a similar action towards a Juventus player would cause me a lot of pain.

"For Recoba, therefore, we will do nothing and besides Inter are a friendly club."

Recoba last week apologized for his petulant response to the jeers of his fans but Inter has since revealed that the player's pay demands are still way in excess of what it is prepared to pay.
