Fit-Again Zidane Set For Juventus Return
Thursday 12th October 2000
Zinedine Zidane, who missed France's friendly draws with Cameroon and South
Africa with a thigh injury, has recovered in time for Sunday's resumption of
Serie A action and expects to play for Juventus against Bari.
Zidane, who injured a thigh muscle in Juve's 2-1 win at Napoli two weeks ago
in the season opener, got the green light after a visit to French osteopath
Philippe Boixel.
As well as declaring himself fit for Sunday, Zidane answered criticism of
his commitment to the national team's cause, raised by his absence for the
sapping trip to Johannesburg for France's second match in four days.
"If I have no more problems, I'll be there for France's match against Turkey
in Istanbul)," Zidane said. The Turkey fixture is set for November 15 in
Istanbul.
Before that, Zidane will be forced to sit out Juventus' next Champions
League games through suspension after being sent off against Deportivo La
Coruna.
"I hope Juventus won't be too handicapped," Zidane added. "I think I'll go
to Spain to cheer on my team-mates."
