Drop Alex, Sacchi Tells Ancelotti
TURIN - Sept 23 2000
Former Italy coach Arigho Sacchi has told Carlo Ancelotti to drop Alessandro Del Piero. The Juventus striker has failed to find his form since he returned from cruciate knee damage at the beginning of last season. With players like David Trezeguet and Darko Kovacevic waiting to take his place, Sacchi believes it is time the Bianconeri stopped pampering their golden boy.
He said, Since this therapy has failed so far I'd say it's time to leave Alex out of the team. This should not be perceived as a punishment for the player but as a way to let him regain his equilibrium and that peace of mind that he is so evidently missing these days. Maybe if he was to sit on the bench for a while the attention of the media would shift to other things and he would finally be left alone. Only this way it would be possible to solve the problem quickly.
