Juventus Bounced Out By Brescia

MILAN (September 23, 2000 7:47 p.m. EDT http://www.sportserver.com) - Juventus was knocked out of the Italian Cup after a shocking 2-1 home defeat by Roberto Baggio's Brescia on Saturday.

Newly promoted Brescia came from a goal behind at the break to win thanks to two fine strikes from forward Dario Hubner.

AC Milan, Fiorentina and Udinese booked their places in the quarterfinals after coming through Saturday's second legs.

After the first leg finished goalless, Juventus fielded a strong lineup including Zinedine Zidane and David Trezeguet and went ahead in the 22nd minute.

Brescia goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi could only parry out a powerful Igor Tudor header, and captain Antonio Conte reacted quickly to slot the loose ball home.

Juve coach Carlo Ancelotti replaced Zidane after the break, but if he thought the game was won, he was in for a nasty surprise.

Just three minutes after the restart, Baggio fed Hubner and the lanky striker turned sharply, leaving goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar stranded, and struck the ball home from an acute angle.

Juve pushed forward in search of a winner, but was caught on the break in the 74th minute when the impressive Aimo Diana broke down the right flank and picked out the unmarked Hubner, who crashed the ball past Van der Sar.

Juve, which had Conte sent off seven minutes from time, is the second big name to fall to a newly promoted side in the third round after AS Roma was defeated 5-3 on aggregate by Atalanta on Friday.

AC Milan, leading 3-1 from its first leg against Torino, fielded a largely second-string side at the San Siro and a 15th-minute penalty from Stefan Schwoch gave Torino a 1-0 lead, but Milan goes forward 3-2 on aggregate.

Fiorentina was 5-0 up from its away leg against Salernitana, and goals from Predrag Mijatovic and Paolo Vanoli gave its a two-goal lead against the Serie B club.

Salernitana pulled a goal back in the 88th minute through Stefano Guidoni, but Enrico Chiesa completed an 8-1 aggregate win with an injury time penalty.

A stunning 88th-minute strike from Valerio Bertotti gave Udinese a 2-1 win over Serie B club Piacenza.

The win gave Udinese a 3-2 aggregate victory but it was made to fight hard for its place in the last eight.

Udinese took the lead in the 10th minute through Belgian Johan Walem, who tapped in from close range after a Vincenzo Iaquinta shot had been parried out.

Piacenza, relegated from Serie A last season, drew level in the 24th minute when Alessandro Lucarelli set up Francesco Zerbini for a simple tap-in.

The game was heading for extra time until two minutes from the end, when Bertotti struck an unstoppable curling shot from 25 meters out to give Udinese the win.

Inter Milan and Lazio are in action on Sunday and face tricky ties against Lecce and Sampdoria, with both matches level at 1-1 after the first legs.
