Zidane Calls Transfer Fees "Ridiculous"
PARIS (Reuters)(DS) -
Zinedine Zidane said he found transfer fees paid recently by big European
clubs "ridiculous".
"It's meaningless. When I hear in my own case people talk about 500 or 600
million francs (50 or 60 million pounds), I find this ridiculous.
"Seriously, it is ridiculous. Because there's no limits anymore," he told
sports daily l'Equipe in an interview. "And when some constantly point out that Luis Figo or Rivaldo make more
money than I do, I'll tell them this -- I'm not jealous."
Portugal's Figo was transferred to Real this summer for 56.1 million
dollars.
Reports have circulated that Zidane, the Juventus playmaker, had been
approached by Real Madrid. But the Frenchman insisted one of his goals was to win the Champions League
with Juventus after losing in the final in 1997 and 1998.
