Rain Delays Final Juventus Match of Season
PERUGIA, Italy, May 14 (Reuters)(DS) - Juventus's vital away match at Perugia restarted on Sunday after a delay of over an hour due to torrential rain. The downpour had made it impossible for the teams to restart after the interval. The game was deadlocked at 0-0. Referee Pierluigi Collina inspected the waterlogged pitch several times before ruling the match could continue. It kicked off again at 5:11 p.m. (1511 GMT).
In sunny Rome, referee Gennaro Borriello held up the resumption of the game between Juve's title rivals Lazio and Reggina in the hope the rain in Perugia would abate and the two matches could resume at the same time. But after a delay of around 20 minutes, Borriello decided play would continue.
Lazio completed the match despite a further 10-minute delay caused by a pitch invasion. They won 3-0. Juventus led Lazio by two points going into the final round of matches. If Juventus draw at Perugia they will be tied with Lazio on 72 points and the championship will be decided on a play-off.
