Juve On The Loose
01/23/2000. Juventus took full advantage of Lazio's Saturday equalizer against Cagliari as they defeated Reggina 2-0 in the Stadio Garilli on Sunday afternoon to take a three-point lead over the second placed Roman side. With out playing their best soccer, Juventus brought home the important victory which allows them to break loose from the rest of the contenders for the first time this season, thanks to goals on either side of halftime by Darko Kovacevic and Zinedine Zidane.
Inter, who moved into fourth place in the standings, were able to clinch their second consecutive victory thanks to a late goal by Roberto Baggio. After hitting two posts with Alvaro Recoba and Clarence Seedorf, Inter fell behind on the stroke of half time courtesy of a Martin Laursen strike. However, in the second half Inter achieved the deserved three points by first equalizing with Alvaro Recoba, who then assisted Baggio for the game winning goal.
Milan lost their chance to keep in close contact with the rest of the pack as they were held to a 2-2 draw by a pragmatic Lecce side which held a two goal lead at one point in the game thanks to a pair by their striker Christiano Lucarelli. Alberto Zaccheroni's team displayed the same defensive shortcomings they demonstrated in their last outings, and have to be thankful to Paolo Maldini and Oliver Bierhoff that one point came out of
the face off.
In other games, Udinese rolled over Venezia 5-2 with two goals by Roberto Muzzi, Fiorentina continued their descent towards the relegation zone as Bari overcame them with a late goal by Spinesi, and Torino got their second three points in a row as they overcame Bologna 2-1.
