ten thingsten things

Alessandro Birindelli
Alessandro Birindelli has taken fame in his stride. Educated and polite, he is a role model for all fans, with whom he is very generous with his time, signing autographs at the drop of a hat. His is a shy and timid individual who likes his privacy.
His room-mate at Juventus is Gianluca Pessotto, with whom he also spends a great deal of his free time. The fans sometimes mistake the two players for each other.
He is a family man and is married to Silvia. Together they have a young son called Samuele, born on 18 July last year. They live in the centre of Turin. Birindelli and his wife decorated their home together, as they are both passionate about antiques and interiors.
Alessandro Birindelli's artistic talents have deep roots: as a child he used to love painting landscapes and continued to do so until recently. His work is under lock and key at his parents home in Pisa.
He will be 26 years' old on 12 November. When you meet him, though, he seems mature beyond his years. He has a sister, Tiziana, who is 29 and about to graduate in classical literature. The Juve defender was forced to abandon his studies in business in order to pursue a career as a professional footballer, for which he owes a debt of gratitude to his first coach, Ettore Donati.
He is an avid reader, and loves listening to music. He also loves to hit the more exclusive parts of town with his wife, although since the arrival of their son, these outings have become a less frequent occurrence.
His best friend is Stefano Bianconi, now at Cagliari, and a former team-mate from Birindelli's Empoli days. He is best remembered by Bianconeri fans for a freak goal he scored at Juve's expense in the 1997/98 season.
Birindelli loves the seaside (he has a house in Sardinia) and often returns to his parents' home to spend time with his mum, dad and grandmother Anna, with whom he has a close relationship.
He is also passionate about computers and actively follows the stock markets.
His first tentative steps in football were taken at Empoli. Birindelli made his League debut in a Serie C match in 1992/93. He played a further three seasons in Serie C before gaining promotion to Serie B. He then joined Juventus with whom he made his Serie A debut on 31 August 1997 (Juventus 2-0 Lecce.
