Lazio beat Juventus by a single goal from Fabio Liverani and climb above them into fourth position in Serie A.

The visitors drop to fifth position after failing to find the back of the net in a game they dominated in terms of possession but lacked a cutting-edge.

Alessandro Del Piero was a constant menace to the host side but he came up against a rock solid home defence.

In the second half Lazio came out of their defensive shell and began to put Juventus under some kind of pressure and managed to score the only goal of the game just four minutes after the break.

Liverani came forward for probably the first time in the match and scored following a precise pass from Simone Inzaghi.

The goal knocked the away side back on their heels and for some time after found it difficult to get back into their rhythm.

David Trezeguet did have an opportunity to pull his side back into the game but was denied by the referee after he looked to be through on goal.

The visiting fans were up in arms and clearly frustrated by their side's lack of firepower but it was the team from Rome who took all three points.

First Half:
3': Stankovic looks for Inzaghi inside the Lazio box, but his cross is way off target and Juve have a goalkick.
5': Giannichedda fouls Del Piero, freekick to Juve from 25 meters out. Nedved takes it...wide of the net.
10': Juve are in control in these first minutes of the match.
13': Del Piero enters the box and crosses for Trezegeut who tries the hand of god move and is rightfully yellow carded by referee Collina.
18': Tudor fouls Stankovic and Lazio have an intersting freekick that Liverani will surely take...right into Buffon`s arms.
20': Davids takes a shot from long range...Peruzzi makes the save.
25': Thurman takes down Inzaghi in the box, that was surely a penalty kick foul, but Inzaghi was in an offside position.
30': Davids is yellow carded for a foul on Liverani.
35': Tudor finds Del Piero inside the box, who incredibly heads wide of the Lazio box.
42': Freekick to Lazio, Couto heads the ball. It hits the post. Lazio come close to the lead.

Second Half:
3': Couto connects with a Liverani cross. Buffon makes the save.
4': Buffon needs to come out of his net to clear a bad Tacchinardi back pass, the ball gets to Liverani who tries to lob the ball over Buffon. Liverani scores and Lazio have the lead.
10': Juve are trying to react, but they appear shocked by the unexpected Liverani goal.
11': Poborsky sends a through pass inside the box for Crespo who hits the post all alone in front of Buffon.
12': Tudor finds Nedved inside the box...the former Lazio player shoots! Peruzzi makes the save.
16': Negro pushes Del Piero and Juve have a freekick from the edge of the box. Before it is taken Maresca comes on for Zenoni. Del Piero is on the ball...off the wall.
22': Amoruso replaces Del Piero in the Juve lineup.
28': Poborsky enters the Lazio box and looks for Crespo on the far post. Thuram clears. In the meantime Collina books Inzaghi.
30': Fifteen minutes are left to be played.
36': Liverani comes off the pitch and is replaced by Dino Baggio, and Claudio Lopez comes on for Simone Inzaghi.
41': Nedved`s shot sails over the bar. If Juve want to equalize, they will need to do something more than that.
