Beautiful night in Torino at the Delle Alpi stadium for the most exciting match of the beginning of the season between, Juventus, the team that won 23 leagues and the new entry Chievo. The team of Chievo managed by Del Neri did onour his position in the league with a very good match against Lippi's team. Marazzina scored two goals in the first 15 minutes and Del Piero & Co. were forced to run after. The dream of the Veneto's team ends quite soon. With great convinction the "Vecchia Signora" scores the first goal with Tacchinardi, draws with Tudor and scores the winning goal with Salas' penalty in the second half.
The bianconeri start the match with the usual team, except for Iuliano instead of Montero. Four chances in eight minutes, with good play and great determination. But suddenly comes a cold shower by the Cinderella of the serie A, after two victories in a row (as the bianconeri), for sure Chievo doesn't want to disfigure at his first match at the Delle Alpi. It is at the 9' that on a corner kick by Corini, Buffon trying to catch the ball doesn't hold it and Marazzina takes advantage of it and leads ahead Del Neri's team. In front of a confused Juve, Chievo doesn't give in and ten minutes after scores the second goal always with Marazzina, served by Perrotta.
The determination and the fighting spirit on which Lippi is building his Juve can not lack in this moment and in fact the bianconeri wake up: passing by Trezeguet for Tacchinardi that, with a great right flying shot, beats Lupatelli (1-2). The behaviour of the second captain is symbolic: he goes to recover the ball at the end of the net and he brings it at the midfield to restart the run towards the draw. In the meanwhile the nervousness grows, after Corradi's one, the yellows cards arrive for Tudor, Iuliano and the goalkeeper Lupatelli, who was guilty to loose too much time when he had to kick off, and for Perrotta. On the side of Chievo it is worth a mention a shot by Manfredini that goes wide and a nice going out by Buffon on Corradi. Bianconeri tryies with Trezeguet, that scores but the referee rules out because of offside, and Nedved, but this one it is the night for midfielders: on a corner kick by Del Piero, Tudor with an eader scores the goal that puts the match to draw (2-2). The balance comes back.
Second half. Lippi changes: out Zenoni in O'Neill. The player from Uruguay places himself at Tacchinardi's side, Tudor goes in the defence at the right line. The play is only at one side, the bianconeri point opponent's net with decision. The first who goes near to score is Tudor, with an header, on a O'Neill's free-kick. Than it's the time of the Uruguayan, on a free-kick, to frighten Lupatelli, that a minute later holds a shot from Nedved. At the quarter it's Salas' time, that substitutes Trezeguet. Del Neri, after Zanchetta, puts in the field Cossato and Lorenzi (out Eriberto, Manfredini and Marazzina). At the 25' thrust and parry Cossato-Zambrotta: the header of the first is wide, the shot of the second, from a great distance, ends in Lupatelli's hands. Than Nedved has a try, the action is nice, but his effort goes out. At the half an hour the last change: out Del Piero in Amoruso.
The efforts and the determination of the bianconeri were awarded at the 38'. Salas hits the bar, the ball comes back and Moro, trying to anticipate Nedved, touches with the hand. It's penalty. The "Matador" from the box scores the 3-2 that tips over the result and gives the victory to Lippi's team.
