Maurizio Ganz scored seven minutes from time as Atalanta came away with an important win to stay second in the table on goal difference behind Juventus. The home side attacked for most of the match, coming close several times through Argentine striker Julio Cruz. Atalanta's counter-attacking paid off in the closing minutes as striker Marco Nappi broke away down the left, his cross setting up the unmarked Ganz.
Inter Milan 0 - Brescia 0

Inter attacked from the start but were unable to penetrate the Brescia defence thanks to some fine saves by goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek. Brescia earned an important point in their bid to stay in the top flight while Inter failed to keep up with the league leaders.

A 70th minute own goal from Lazio defender Paolo Negro gave leaders AS Roma victory in the Rome derby.
The game was settled when Lazio 'keeper Angelo Peruzzi parried out a Cristiano Zanetti header but Alessandro Nesta's attempt to hook the ball clear struck Negro and bounced over the line. Lazio almost grabbed an equaliser 10 minutes from the end when Pavel Nedved struck the bar with a thundering drive from a Sinisa Mihajlovic short corner.

Juventus kept up the pace with a 4-1 win at Lecce. Filippo Inzaghi finally got back among the scorers as the Italy international drove home a shot from just inside the box, giving his side the early lead. David Trezeguet added a second in the 28th minute. Lecce's Rodolfo Giorgetti cut the lead with a spectacular volley in the 70th minute before goals from Darko Kovacevic after 88 minutes and Gianluca Zambrotta in injury time made sure for the league leaders.[Full match report]

In-form striker Luca Toni scored twice to give Vicenza an unexpected away victory. Toni scored early in the second half with a long-range shot that caught Parma goalkeeper Luigi Buffon out of position. A few minutes later he held off two Parma defenders and dribbled across the Parma goal before firing home a shot in the top right hand corner. This was Parma's first home loss of the season.

Fiorentina earned their first away win of the season even though Udinese took the lead after eight minutes, Martin Jorgensen heading home a cross from Stefano Fiore. Fiorentina were level before the break as Enrico Chiesa drove home a shot from just outside the box. Two mistakes in two minutes by the Udinese defence paved the way for Fiorentina's second-half come-back. An own goal by defender Andrea Sottil in the 65th minute was followed two minutes later by a bad clearance from Udinese goalkeeper Luigi Turci wich Rui Costa slotted home. Udinese have now lost four consecutive league matches.

Massimo Ambrosini's header in the 22nd minute, set up by a cross from defender Francesco Coco, earned AC Milan a point. Emiliano Bonazzoli's fifth goal of the season after four minutes had given the home side the lead. Verona have drawn six of their eleven matches, the most in Italy's Serie A.

Napoli have now taken seven points from their last three matches under recently appointed manager Emiliano Mondonico. Napoli move up to ten points while Reggina remain bottom of the table, four points behind Bari.

Giovanni Tedesco scored twice, helping Perugia to its third victory of the season. Perugia played with ten men for most of the match after defender Marco Materazzi was sent off in the 29th minute. Bari closed the gap through Giacomo Mazzarelli but could not take advantage of their numerical superiority and were punished as Luca Saudati and youngster Tomaso Tatti rounded off the scoring.
