Atalanta attacked for most of the match but were unable to break the deadlock thanks to a fine effort by Perugia goalkeeper Giuseppe Mazzantini. Atalanta are in second place, six points behind leaders AS Roma.

Struggling Bari finally got back in the win column. Defender Antonio Bellavista scored after seven minutes with a cracking right-foot volley from the edge of the box. One minute into the second half, youngster Antonio Cassano added the second with his second of the season. Bari now have eight points from 10 matches.

Fiorentina 2 - Inter Milan 0
Fiorentina: Enrico Chiesa 49', Rui Costa 90'

Enrico Chiesa put Fiorentina in front with a header shortly after the interval and Rui Costa added a second in injury time. The Portuguese midfielder rounded the keeper and saw his first effort cleared off the line but picked up the ball again and fired it home. Inter's Christian Vieri had a superb second half strike controversially ruled out for offside.

Juventus 1 - Parma 0
Juventus: Ciro Ferrara 14'

Attendance: 40,000 Ciro Ferrara's rare goal, a header in the 14th minute, was enough to give Juventus three points. Alessandro Del Piero's corner was headed into the centre by Michele Paramatti before Ferrara's final touch nudged the ball into the net. Juventus climb into second with Atalanta. [Full match report]

Lecce: Alessandro Conticchio 22'

Andriy Shevchenko scored twice in four minutes as Milan's good run continued. Brazilian midfielder Leonardo put them ahead in the 20th before Lecce pulled one back. Shevchenko put Milan back in front with a shot from inside the box and then converted a 30th minute penalty. Spanish international Jose Mari added a fourth three minutes from time.

Top-of-the-table Roma stretched their lead to six points with a performance that deserved more goals. Argentine international Gabriel Batistuta opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season before Francesco Totti made it 2-0 in the 34th with a superb angled volley wich left Udinese goalkeeper Luigi Turci applauding. Totti missed a second half penalty and rampant Roma twice hit the woodwork. Early season pace-setters Udinese have now lost their last three.

Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved opened the scoring for Lazio in the 14th minute with a splendid right foot strike from the edge of the box. Crespo added a second before the break before Nedved and Marcelo Salas completed the rout. Lazio are now seven points behind Roma ahead of next weekend's derby.

Defender Lorenzo Stovini scored late in injury time to give Reggina a hard fought draw. Emiliano Bonazzoli had put Verona in front less than a minute into the match. Reggina's point ended an eight-match losing streak but they stay bottom.

Napoli: Fabio Pecchia 58'

Fabio Pecchia's goal in the 58th minute was enough to give Napoli a draw. Defender Aimo Diana had given the home side the lead in the 31st minute with his second of the season. Roberto Baggio hit a post for Brescia.
