Juventus strolled to victory with a goal from man of the match Trezeguet.
In a vital game the win put Juventus second, four points behind Roma, and
ahead of Lazio who were held by Inter. The game didn't live up to
expectations but at least Juventus showed determination to go in front and
coolness to hang onto the result.
In a a slow build up to the game Juventus were happy to hang onto the ball while Perugia took advantage of what space they were allowed. The first moment to awake the crowd came on 18 minutes when Trezeguet crashed a shot against the cross bar following a great pass by Zidane. Four minutes later his fellow attacker Del Piero also benefited from good play by the Frenchman but the keeper Mazzantini was alert to his effort. Other highlights were headers from Iuliano and Tudor which finished just wide and an effort by Tacchinardi which was parried for a corner.
The dangermen for Juventus were Liverani and Ahn but they failed to trouble the home keeper. However he had to be at his best to beat out an effort from
Vryzas. The first half ended with a great effort from Trezeguet who blazed
an effort inches over the bar. Pushed on by his two near misses Trezeguet
continued to attack looking for the elusive goal and his efforts were
rewarded ten minutes into the second half when the Frenchman turned and
shot in the box giving him his eleventh league goal.
Following a quiet spell O'Neill was brought on for Zidane to immediate effect with the Urugayan supplying Del Piero with a great chance which he failed to
capitalise on. Another change in the Juventus line up saw Athirson going
off injured to be replaced by Brighi with Zambrotta moving to the left.
While Del Piero was brought off for Inzaghi five minutes from time.
