Italy international Christian Vieri scored two early first half goals in three minutes, pushing his tally for the season to 16 and helping Inter Milan keep their Champions League hopes alive. Alvaro Recoba added his sixth of the year to round out the scoring late in the first half. Inter move up to fifth on 44 points, level with AC Milan. Atalanta, meanwhile, lose ground and remain sixth on 42 points.

A scintillating top-of-the-table match saw Vincenzo Montella score his 10th goal of the season in injury time to give league leaders AS Roma a draw at Juventus. Juve dominated most of the match after going 2-0 up through early goals from Alessandro Del Piero and Zinedine Zidane. Japanese international Hidetoshi Nakata, a late substitute, rifled home a shot from 30 yards out in the 79th minute and Montella pounced for the crucial late equaliser. Juan Veron scored twice as Lazio won their 18th match of the season. Veron latched on to a volley from the edge of the box in the 25th minute to give Lazio the lead. The Argentine international then repeated just before the halftime, blasting a shot from 30 yards out that Bari goalkeeper Antonio Narciso mishandled and let slip through his legs. Lazio moved into second place on 59 points, ahead of Juventus who were held 2-2 at home by leaders AS Roma.

Marco Di Vaio scored twice, giving the Parma forward 13 goals for the season. Frenchman Johan Micoud had put Parma ahead in the 32nd minute and Savo Milosevic added another before Di Vaio secured the result with two late goals. With the win, Parma enhanced their chances of securing a Champions League berth as they climb to fourth on 50 points. Napoli remain on 28 points, fourth from bottom with five matches left.

Greek striker Zisis Vryzas scored twice as Perugia won their 10th match of the season. Vryzas put Perugia in front after four minutes of play. Andriy Shevchenko equalised from the spot in the 31st minute to maintain his place at the top of the goal-scoring standings with 21 for the season. Vryzas stabbed home the winner in the 50th minute when he capitalised on a mishandled ball by Milan goalkeeper Sebastiano Rossi. Perugia move up to the ninth spot on 39 points, level with Fiorentina, who were losers on the day.

Verona earned a precious win in their bid to stave off relegation. An Emiliano Salvetti header in the 62nd minute put Verona ahead. Five minutes later, Vincenzo Italiano stole the ball midfield and raced down the pitch to blast home Verona's second. Enrico Chiesa scored his 20th goal of the season in injury time for Fiorentina. Verona climb to 27 points, and are now third from bottom, one point in front of Reggina, who were losers on the day.

Defender Marco Zanchi scored twice to rescue Vicenza after Reggina went ahead with a Massimo Marazzina volley in the 52nd minute. A Zanchi header levelled the score in the 64th minute. Zanchi then struck a second time four minutes from time with another header to give Vicenza a much-needed victory in this relegation clash. Vicenza climb to fifth from bottom on 31 points, level with Lecce. Reggina fall to second from bottom on 26 points, overtaken by Verona on 27 points.

Struggling Udinese earned a rare draw, only their third of the season. Brazilian defender Alberto scored the equaliser in the 37th minute after Bologna had taken the lead with a Renato Olive header in the 25th minute.

In-form Roberto Baggio scored a hat-trick giving him 10 goals this season. Baggio opened the scoring from a corner kick, surprising Lecce goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti with a curling kick that slipped into the back of the net. The ex-Italy international added a 59th minute penalty and completed his performance 10 minutes from time when he dribbled through the Lecce defence for his third goal of the match. Brescia recorded their third win in four matches and climb to 35 points, eighth from bottom. Lecce meanwhile, remain on 31 points, and are sixth from bottom, having dropped three of their last four matches.
