Parma 0 - 0 Juventus

Sunday 22 Apr 2001

Back to six points behind Roma. Juventus started off well knowing that they had to come away from the Tardini with three points, especially after the wins of both Roma and Lazio. Ancelotti counted on the formation which has served him so well over the last few matches, reconfirming Tudor on the right of the defence.

FIRST HALF:
In midfield , Davids was immeditely in evidence as was his midfield partner Tacchinardi, who after only nine minutes played a lovely ball to Del Piero whose shot went wide. Parma had to substitute the injured Torrisi with Sensini, who took up the defensive role vacated by Torrisi, after only 15minutes. After 16 minutes Davids went wide with a free kick, and three minutes later Lamouchi hit the bar with a shot from outside the box. The game continued to be intense with both sides giving nothing away. Shots by both Zidane and Di vaio were well wide of the target. At the end of the first half there was some panic in the Juve goal mouth when Micoud had a shot turned away by Zambrotta.

SECOND HALF:
The second half started with Montero being replaced by Ferrara, and for Parma Micoud being replaced by Appiah. After ten minutes with the games tension rising, Juve began to turn on the pressure. Juve tried everything to try and pierce the Parma defence and get past Buffon, first with Del Piero then with Pessotto and Zambrotta. Zidane was beginning to get into the game and hit the post with shot on the turn.

Minutes after the substitution of Inzaghi by Trezeguet, Ancelotti was forced to replace Del Piero with Fonseca who was making only his second appearance of the season. Although Juve pressed forward trying to get the all important goal, Buffon was managing to keep them at bay.First turning away a shot by the Frenchman, and then saving a free kick by the Uruguayan. Juve continued pressing forward until the end, but the result remained the same.
